Green Car Savings

September 2, 2013

Mary and I got a 2013 Chevy Volt at the end of December 2012 to replace her gas hog 2005 Nissan Pathfinder 4X4. The cash that we got from the Pathfinder will fund the full 3-year lease. The car is charged with free electricity from our solar panels. If I didn’t have solar the cost to charge would be about $45 per month.

In March we replaced my 2009 Volvo C70 with a 2013 Toyota Prius C. The net Cost was $6000.00 since the Volvo was sold for $20,000.

I just did a YTD comparison and was pleasantly surprised. The miles traveled are similar. We have had a savings of $1489.08 in gas! Our average MPG has gone from 18.23 to 78.75! We have used 371.75 gallons LESS of gas.
